Abstract

Besides delivering drug to the body, a drug delivery system aims to improve patient compliance, patient acceptance. The dosage forms available for the delivery of topical agents include ointment, paste, lotion, moisturizing cream and powder. However creams are more preferable due to their properties. Present research work is attempted to develop moisturizing creams by using rice bran wax. Rice bran wax is the vegetable wax extracted from rice bran oil. The oil generally contains 2-6 % wax. However it is assumed that on an average it contains 3 % wax. Physicochemical tests such as globule size, evaluation of the intrinsic viscosity and homogeneity of cream products, have been traditionally used to provide reasonable evidence of consistent product performance. However, for the purposes of these studies, the final cream products were characterized by pH, particle size, spreadability, rheological measurement and in vitro occlusivity. All the results match with official specifications.

Abstract

Rice bran wax is a natural vegetable wax and is a value added by-product of Rice bran oil refineries. It is hard nontacky wax and contains higher fatty alcohols and esters which make it comparable to Carnauba wax. In the present work, studies are carried out on Rice bran wax for various physico-chemical properties like solubility, melting point, specific gravity, moisture content, saponification value, acid value, ester value, hydroxyl value, unsaponifiable matter, Iodine number etc. Moreover the solid state compatibility studies was carried out by using mixture of Nifedipine and RBW in the 1:1 ratio at 60°C for 15 days and observed for its physical changes i. e. discoloration, liquefaction, gas formation etc and chemical changes i.e. interaction in between Nifedipine and RBW. It was carried out by using Differential Scanning Colorimetry (DSC) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The result shows that there are no physical and chemical changes; therefore RBW can be used in formulations of Nifedipine.

Abstract

A novel compression of coated pellets formulation of captopril was developed in order to improve the efficacy of antihypertensive therapy considering the half-life of drug. The sustained release pellets containing tablet were prepared by using 32 factorial design by employing 2 polymers i.e., HPMC k4M and eudragit RS 30D at 3 levels. As captopril having short half-life (2 hrs) there is need to formulate the modified release formulation. sustained release pellets containing tablet is the best approach to reduce the dose frequency of captopril tablet, by using the single polymer (eudragit RS 30D). The release retardant layer over a drug loaded pellets was achieved by 3% eudragit RS 30D polymer solution by using fluidized bed processor and then the pellets were mixed with otherexcipients and compress into the tablets and it showed the good sustained release pattern.

Abstract

Fluidized bed processor is the popular and successful technique widely being in pharmaceutical industries. Fluidized bed processor was developed in 1950. In this paper, the information about principal, spraying techniques of fluidized bed processor and recent applications of FBP in pharmaceutical industries were reviewed. In face, it is more often than not the last step in the manufacturing process. The fluid bed system has a bed of solid discrete particle which are fluidized upward by passing a stream of air through a perforated sheet. The air is heated and the process hot air evaporate the fluid and dries the solid. There are three types of spraying techniques, the top spray commonly applicable for formation of granules to improve the flow characteristics of powder. The bottom spray is required for optimal application of coating material to the particle and achieves desire drying. The tangential spray used to ensure homogenous granulation. This insures good product at a lower cost than traditional drying methods. For instance, low moisture content in the polymer product is a prerequisite for subsequent extrusion processes. The main applications of fluidized bed processor, such as pelletization, particle coating, granulation powder and drying. This technology commonly employed for formed granules for tableting, capsule, excellent solubility, dust free process, fee flow properties, good dispensability due to porous structure.
